College Life

“What Starts Here Changes the World”Hey everyone!!!

The past few weeks have been quite crazy for me and so I thought it was finally time to give y’all an update on my life.  So for those of you who didn’t know (or possibly live under a rock),  I recently moved to Austin, Texas to attend the University of Texas at Austin.  I have been here almost 3 weeks now and I can say that it has been the best 3 weeks ever.

During the summer, I was quite ready for college to start.  It was crazy when the time finally arrived for me to move into my dorm room.  Since we chose to do early move in day, moving in was not as hectic as we thought it would be.  It took us basically all day to set up everything in my room and now my dorm definitely feels like home… #dormsweetdorm

I’ve had a lot of firsts so far from doing laundry all by myself to taking the public bus to go grocery shopping.  But it’s all been an adventure so far!  I’m so lucky my crazy roommate Michelle is here with me for the ride (shoutout to her for being an amazing roomie).

After only being here a short amount of time, I know I am in the right place.  I am absolutely in love with this city and this university.  I am continually impressed with how much UT has to offer us in terms of resources and education.  Of course, it hasn’t all been easy breezy.  There is this thing called school that I am having to do here and that isn’t always so much fun.  Honestly, I was struggling a lot with chemistry my first week here and I really thought there was no way I was going to pass this class.  But after seeking out a lot of help and tutoring, I am now feeling so much more confident about chemistry.  I’ve began to learn how college works and what I need to do personally to succeed.  I think that is such an important step in being successful is learning what is best for you and how you learn and study best.

Speaking of classes, my class schedule is amazing.  I only go to school Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  On Tuesday and Thursday I get to study the entire day and it is wonderful.  In college you definitely have loads of free time that you really have to learn how to manage so you don’t end up wasting it all.  I’m slowly learning how to do that.

But besides school, I am starting to get involved with a lot of clubs.  So far I am a part of Christian Students On Campus (CSOC) and Planet Longhorn.  In CSOC, I get to attend weekly Bible studies, Thursday night ministry messages, Friday home groups, and Sunday worship.  It has been such a blessing to be around other Christians and become friends with other people who really love the Lord.  On the other hand, I am also a part of Planet Longhorn, an international club.  In this club, we have outings in Austin and weekly meetings to get to know one another and explore Austin together.  I am really excited to be involved with both of these clubs.

Then, today I went for my first run with the Texas Running Club.  Before my run today, I wasn’t sure if I was going to join this club, but after the run I am so pumped to be a part of this club.  The TRC runs every night through Austin and you can pick the 3, 5, or 7 mile route.  Everyone in the club is so nice and no one cares if you are slow (like me).  Everyone just encourages one another and cheers you on!  On top of getting a great workout and hanging with some cool people, you also get to see parts of Austin around campus you might not see otherwise.

Besides these 3, I am also hoping to join a medical club and possibly some others.  (I’ll update y’all soon on what I end up joining for sure!)  I know it seems like a lot, but I can’t wait to get involved with this school and start meeting some awesome people.

I think that about sums up the majority of my college experience so far.  Besides all that I mentioned above I have had fun attending football games, tailgates, having chill movie nights with friends (shoutout Emily, Katie, and Alicia), exploring Austin, learning to navigate my bike through all the people on campus, and everything else college life is about!  Sometimes #adulting is hard, but it’s worth it.  Can’t wait to see what the rest of the semester has in store for me.  #hookem

XOXO
