Hey everyone! So as you know I have been traveling a lot recently! And in my opinion, you can’t go on any trip without a good book to read. For my most recent vacation to California, I brought three books with me to read on the beach and in my free time. One of these books was called Famous in Love by Rebecca Serle. You might be thinking, “Hmmm. Where have I heard that title before?” (Or you might not be thinking that at all. Who knows. I don’t know what thoughts go on inside your brain.) But if you belong to the former, let me help you out in remembering where you might have heard the words “Famous in Love” before.
Famous in Love has recently been adapted as a tv show on freeform. The producer is none other than I. Marlene King, well known for producing the hit tv show Pretty Little Liars. I first saw the preview for the tv show Famous in Love during an episode of Pretty Little Liars and thought that looks like an interesting show. So when the show aired back in April, I recorded the pilot episode and watched it a few days later. After that first episode, I was absolutely HOOKED. I just couldn’t get enough of Paige Townsen (Bella Thorne) and Rainer Devon (Carter Jenkins). Lucky for me, freeform decided to release all 10 episodes of season 1 on freeform the same night the pilot was released. Hello, binge watching! Let’s just say I spent a lot of time in my room staring at my laptop the next week. My friends can tell you just how obsessed I was with this show. I sat staring at my laptop during lunch, consumed by the drama unfolding in front of my eyes. Then, I proceed to share with my friends after lunch all the juicy details of each episode. Luckily, I have the best friends so they kindly listened to me tell them all about Paige, Rainer, and Jake even though they had no clue what I was talking about.
As I mentioned earlier, this tv show is based off a book (as almost all tv shows and movies are). At the time when I was watching the show, I had no idea that a book existed. But the night before I left for California, I was doing some last minute shopping at Target. I was browsing the book section, my feet naturally dragging my body over to wherever the books were, when my eyes landed on Famous In Love. Who knew my new favorite tv show was first a book? I knew that I just had to buy it. Fast forward a week later and I had begun to read the book. I was giddy like a kid in a candy store to start reading about my favorite characters. From the moment I began reading, I could tell that a lot was different from the tv show. It didn’t really surprise me because that’s how it always happens. When movies are made, all the important details to us readers get cut out and changed. I almost always read the book first, but this time I did it the other way around. And you know, honestly I was very pleasantly surprised.
Okay, okay, okay! I know! Am I ever going to actually tell you what the Famous in Love is about? Yes! I am about to do just that. Don’t you worry.
THE BOOK:
- Paige Townsen is an ordinary 17 year old attending high school with her two best friends, Jake and Cassie. The youngest of four children, Paige goes about her life doing what is expected of her, but secretly she hopes to make it big some day. When an open casting call for a new movie, Locked comes to the town where Paige lives, she jumps on the opportunity. Soon, after a few rounds of auditions, Paige learns that she has landed the role and will have to move to Hawaii to film the movie. Once on set, Paige has a hard time adjusting to the life of a Hollywood Star, but luckily her coworkers, hairstylists, mangers, and the rest of the crew are very helpful and kind to her. In particular, Rainer Devon, her handsome 23 year old co-star is extra nice to Paige. Rainer and Paige quickly become close friends, but soon Paige starts to wonder if there is something more between them. And to complicate things even more, Jordan Wilder, Rainer’s arch enemy, has just been cast into the movie. Follow Paige as she navigates a sticky love triangle amidst all the other responsibilities that come with being a movie star and watch as the drama and romance unfold in this amazing novel!
THE TV SHOW:
- Paige Townsen is just a typical college student living in Los Angeles, California with her two best friends, Jake and Cassie. Paige is majoring in economics, but deep down her dream is to be an actress. Her friends have similar goals, Cassie also wanting to be an actress and Jake wanting to be a screenwriter. When Cassie hears about an opening casting call for a new movie, Locked Cassie convinces Paige to go with her to the audition. Paige never in a million years thought she would actually get the part. But, when Paige learns she has earned the roll, she practically becomes a movie star overnight. Although a similar general concept as the book, the tv show changes a lot of details from the book. Similar to the book, Paige does befriend her co-star, Rainer Devon, but the love triangle in the tv show is completely different. There is a lot more drama in the show and lots of different minor characters. I can’t say too much without giving the whole show away so you will just have to watch and see for yourself how it all unfolds!
That is the gist of both the book and the tv show. I highly recommend both!!! Seriously people, watch the tv show and read the book. You won’t regret it. It is not confirmed yet whether or not there will be a season 2 of Famous in Love, but good news for Famous in Love fans is that there is a 2nd book! The sequel is called Truly, Madly, Famously. I actually haven’t read it yet, but as soon as Amazon Prime gets it to my house I will start away on it.
I hope that this encourages you to either read the book or watch the tv show! All 10 episodes of season 1 are actually online and you can watch them for free. It’s summer and I know everyone has plenty of time to lay in bed and binge watch this show! Click Here to watch the full episodes!! I’d love to hear your thoughts on the book or tv show.
